AmeriCorps program
AmeriCorps is your moment to take the path less traveled, to break the status quo, to stop talking about the problem and be the solution. Join AmeriCorps to improve lives and foster civic engagement.
Arizona’s children and school-aged kids across the nation lost ground academically,
emotionally and socially during the pandemic. The students in our community need your help! Here is an opportunity for you to be a difference maker and to help students succeed in school and life.
The ASU Lodestar Center's Experience Matters AmeriCorps Program is partnering with the Phoenix Afterschool Center (PAC), an out-of-school time program run through the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. Participants serving in the PAC Program provide a variety of age-appropriate, developmental activities that are fun, stimulating and enriching to children in primary grades.
Work sites are located within schools and community centers throughout the City of Phoenix
boundaries. The PAC program runs through the public school year. Hours vary by school site and are typically 2 to 6 p.m. and one day a week for early release, as early as 11:30 a.m. with flexible daily hours and number of days served to meet your needs when possible. You'll be supported with training and guidance. If implementing activities and planned educational
enrichment programs for youth sounds exciting – this is for you!
You need to be able to pass a background check and serve 300 hours over a six-month period
(approximately 12 hours per week).
Benefits
This is an AmeriCorps opportunity with a stipend and education award for motivated,
friendly and outgoing individuals who enjoy working with school-age children.
Participants who are 55 years or older at the start of their service can gift the education
award to their children or grandchildren.
The greatest benefit, however, is to impact the lives of children in more ways than we’ll ever
know, and to meet regularly with likeminded peers to share and improve the experience,
for you and the students.
