The Solutions Collaboratory
In the Collaboratory, nonprofit and community philanthropic leaders identified challenges and enacted actionable plans to solve them, distilling idea development down to hours instead of weeks during a high-energy, interactive group process.
Guided by Jeff Snell and informed facilitators, with reflections and insights provided by David Bornstein.
David Bornstein
David Bornstein is CEO and co-founder of the Solutions Journalism Network, which works to establish solutions journalism — rigorous reporting that examines responses to social problems — as an integral part of mainstream news. He has been a journalist for almost 30 years. Since 2010, he has co-authored the “Fixes” column in The New York Times.
He is the author of three books: "How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas," "The Price of a Dream: The Story of the Grameen Bank," and "Social Entrepreneurship: What Everyone Needs to Know."
Jeff Snell
Jeff Snell serves as Special Advisor to the Dean of Continuing Studies & Vice Provost for Lifelong Learning at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He serves as a facilitator for public and private sector meetings that need to identify key questions, working groups, and timelines for making necessary changes. As founder of Midwest Social Innovation, LLC, he has provided regional executive education in social enterprise models. Start-ups have garnered best new business awards by local chambers of commerce; individual recognitions include honors from the Manhattan Institute, selection as a Fellow for Ashoka, and receipt of a MacArthur “Genius” Award. He is also the Sr. Fellow for Social Innovation at the ASU Lodestar Center.
Jeff’s social innovation projects include a partnership with The New York Times to embed Social Innovation as an interdisciplinary learning tool across the curriculum (selected by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as one of 10 winners in a field of 1,000 proposals from 15 countries). His work designing the first graduate and undergraduate interdisciplinary social innovation courses at Marquette University resulted in an ongoing university-wide platform and receipt of the inaugural Most Innovative Instructor award.
