George F. Miller Outstanding Student Award - Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Program at Arizona State University
Purpose: The purpose of this award is to honor the outstanding student of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (formerly American Humanics) program each year with monies to support their ongoing pursuit of their degree or, if a graduating senior, to support expenses of becoming established as a nonprofit professional.
Award: A cash award is provided annually by the family of George F. Miller.
Criteria: Student selected must:
- Be enrolled in classes during the spring semester as an ASU student, in good standing (application on file), who is actively working toward fulfillment of Nonprofit Leadership Alliance certification (Certified Nonprofit Professional).
- Demonstrate leadership that is respected by their peers through involvement in NLA curricular and co-curricular programs and through the NLA Student Association.
- Demonstrate promise for a career in nonprofit leadership and management, particularly with organizations that have a youth development focus.
- Have the respect of their professors.
How to Apply: Interested students do not apply but are honored through a vote of their peers.
Selection: The selection of the student recipient of this award is made through an annual “secret” ballot process coordinated through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance program office. Students in good standing who are enrolled in the NLA/ASU program are eligible to vote.
Deadline: Voting by the members of the NLA Student Association is to be completed by April 8 of each spring semester, the GFM Award winner is determined, and the award is presented on the occasion of the Annual NLA Senior Recognition event held at the end of each Spring semester.
