TechForce Foundation is a FAST GROWING nonprofit 501(c)(3) working nationwide to support technical education and the professional technician workforce. We help students explore the career path, pursue their technical training through scholarships and grants, and connect with apprenticeships and jobs in the automotive, trucking, collision, aviation, restoration, motorsports, HVAC, welding, stationary engines, and numerous other industry sectors that rely on this skilled workforce. We are growing rapidly due to donations from industry leaders, ranging from Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Cummins Foundation, AutoZone, NAPA, Penske, The Meadows Foundation, and many individual donors.

Position Summary

TechForce Foundation’s Vice President of Development serves on the senior leadership team and leads nationwide fundraising and donor management efforts for the organization. This position designs the fundraising strategy for the pursuit of corporate partners, as well as major gifts, individual, clubs and foundation giving. The VP manages the department’s fundraising and donor management staff, serves as a primary fundraiser in achieving annual fundraising goals**, and manages a portfolio of donor relationships. **PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE PROVEN EXPERIENCE ACHIEVING SEVEN-FIGURE FUNDRAISING GOALS. The annual goal for this position is $1M in new revenue and at least $6M in renewals.

This position shall have the skills and expertise to pursue relationship- and trust-building activities with all audiences, be able to make the fundraising ask and secure commitments to the organization, oversee account management to ensure donor recognition and contractual relationships are delivered, and assume responsibility and tenacity for growing the organization’s revenue significantly. Having a passion for and understanding of the cause of technical education and the skilled trades is paramount.

Principle Accountabilities & Deliverables

- Serve on the senior leadership team of the organization, providing executive-level thinking, strategy, accountability and management to the organization as a whole.

- Serve as a principal fundraiser for the organization, identifying prospects, cultivating relationships, preparing proposals, making asks and ensuring deliverance of exceptional donor stewardship. Achieve personal and collective annual, fundraising goals. 

-Provide leadership to all persons contributing to the fundraising efforts, including the CEO, consultants, board of directors and volunteers, so that all are following the same direction, communicating status and prospects, and on the same page.

- Supervise the account management team to ensure all contractual deliverables, recognition rights and stewardship are being administered.

- Manage one’s own portfolio of both existing donor relationships and new prospects.

- Work with the CEO and board of directors to establish the organization’s annual fundraising goals and strategies.

- Create, build, manage and keep fresh the infrastructure, processes, database, fundraising content and materials, budget and staff needed to ensure the dynamic, successful operations of a development department.

- Conduct prospect research, creates proposals, presentations and appeals, negotiate relationships; work internally with colleagues to ensure deliverables; draft contracts for CEO review; and ensure delivery of exceptional donor management services. 

- Publicly represent TechForce locally and nationally by 1) cultivating and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with donors, corporate partners, prospects and other funding organizations; 2) ensuring TechForce continuously demonstrates its value and beneficial impact of donations through appropriate regular communication, personal gratitude and information exchange; 3) building internal cooperation with colleagues and volunteers to advance the collective success of the organization; and 4) overseeing the fundraising department’s budget and revenue goals.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Education / Experience

- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in nonprofit management, marketing, communications, business or related field, is required. However, a proven track record in fundraising success of at least seven-figures in revenue will be considered as an exception. 

-Minimum five years’ work experience in nonprofit fundraising with a proven track record of personally achieving/exceeding assigned revenue goals and receiving raving reviews and references from donors. 

- Minimum five years’ work experience establishing multi-year partnerships with large national corporations, major gift donors and funding organizations, writing of proposals and presentations, pitching and negotiating details of a win/win relationship, contracting and acknowledging donors is required.

- Minimum of three years’ work experience in designing fundraising strategy and tactics, designing and implementing department infrastructure, and supervising a development team is required.

- Knowledge of both major gift fundraising and corporate relations required.

- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and legal requirements related to corporate sponsorship, UBIT and commercial co-venture laws is highly desired.

Skills

-Ability to do prospect research, write proposals and craft presentations, and understand how to use and deploy proper fundraising etiquette, language and processes. 

- Ability to cultivate relationships with the perseverance, gravitas and panache required to be successful, along with the natural ability to motivate and earn the trust of others is highly desired.

- A keen attention to detail, follow-through and ability to read social queues necessary to retain and deeper donor relations by delivering exceptional customer service and account management.

- Knowledge of major gift, annual fund, foundation giving and corporate partnership fundraising practices, strategies and tactics necessary to lead such a department on behalf of the organization. 

- Engaging, extroverted communication approach, professional style of tact and diplomacy, and the ability to inspire, motivate, cultivate and nurture a variety of relationships with all types of individuals, including senior corporate executives and high net-worth donors.

- Savvy negotiation skills required to delicately craft win/win, strategic alliances in which all parties feel empowered, accommodated and engaged.

- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, excellent public speaker, and a persuasive, passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

- Demonstrated experience in solicitation, cold-calling, cultivation, stewardship and account management strategies.

- A proven leader who is able to lead people and initiatives, and serve as a coach for the improvement of self and others. 

- Knowledge of in fundraising software tools, CRM and Microsoft Office programs.

Abilities

-Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds 5% or less of the workday

- Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workday

- Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, and reason for most or all of the workday

- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday

- Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday

- Must be able to travel, as needed. 

Work Environment

- Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment and/or from a home-based office.

- Up to 45% travel within the United States may be required.
