In the news: ASU awarded prestigious Leadership for Public Purpose classification
June 14, 2024 — ASU is once again being recognized for innovation and leadership, with an emphasis on public service, as one of the inaugural recipients of the Leadership for Public Purpose classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. As one of the first 25 universities to receive the classification nationwide, ASU is an institution that leads with contributions to research on public service while also developing students for leadership roles in the public sector and their communities.
“Everything we do at ASU is driven by our core belief that a university must lead in safeguarding the public good," said ASU Executive Vice President and University Provost Nancy Gonzales. “Our academic community, the knowledge and creativity we generate, and the innovations and solutions we develop all aim to build a better, more sustainable and equitable world."
ASU has long been home to programs that foster leadership and public service, from Next Generation Service Corps, First Year Success Coaching, and of course the Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation and Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions. These programs have gained national recognition, most recently as one of the first 25 universities to receive the Leadership for Public Purpose classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
