Saguaro Professor of Civic Enterprise, ASU School of Community Resources & Development
Robert F. Ashcraft, Ph.D. is the executive director of the Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation at Arizona State University (ASU), the Saguaro Professor of Civic Enterprise in ASU's School of Community Resources and Development and an affiliate faculty member of ASU’s School of Public Affairs. From its beginning in 1999, the ASU Lodestar Center has emerged as one of the leading nonprofit academic centers in the nation. Dr. Ashcraft has a global reputation for his pioneering work to advance the understanding of and effective practice for leaders of nonprofit/philanthropic organizations.
Opening Session: A Conversation with Tammy McLeod
Tammy McLeod | President and CEO | Flinn Foundation
Following a national search, the Flinn Foundation board of directors has chosen one of Arizona’s most broadly accomplished executives and community leaders as its new president and chief executive officer. Tammy McLeod, currently the vice president for energy resource management at Arizona Public Service, will succeed retiring President and CEO Jack B. Jewett. McLeod will begin her new position in October.

Alberto Olivas | Executive Director | Congressman Ed Pastor Center for Politics & Public Service at ASU (moderator)
Alberto Olivas, a native of Sierra Vista, Arizona, is the founding director of the Congressman Ed Pastor Center for Politics & Public Service at Arizona State University. Prior to transitioning to this role, Alberto served for twelve years as Director of the Center for Civic Participation for the Maricopa Community College District. Alberto has over 20 years’ experience in government and nonprofit community engagement and civic education, and has provided training and technical assistance in these fields to community leadership institutes, chambers of commerce, community advocacy organizations, local, state and federal public agencies, and colleges and universities across the country.
Katie Smith Milway | Partner | The Bridgespan Group (panelist)
Katie Smith Milway is a partner in Bridgespan’s Boston office and head of the firm's Knowledge Unit. She leads the organization’s research and publishing operations, working with Bridgespan teams to identify themes, shape projects that advance them, and chart paths to influence across a variety of tools and media. She brings to the job a background in journalism, nonprofit management, and strategy consulting. As an affiliate of Bridgespan’s global development practice, she has advised NGOs, multilaterals and social entrepreneurs on organizational effectiveness and strategy.
Reyna Montoya | Founder & Executive Director | Aliento (panelist)
Reyna was born in Tijuana, Mexico, and immigrated to Arizona 13 years ago fleeing violence. She is an undocumented/DACAmented community organizer, an educator, and a dancer. She is a 2016 Soros Justice Fellow, which enable her to start Aliento. She also serves in the first Teach For America DACA Advisory Board. She has engaged in local, statewide and national platforms to advance justice for immigrant communities. Reyna holds bachelor's degrees in political science and transborder studies and a dance minor from Arizona State University; she also holds a M.Ed in secondary education from Grand Canyon University.
Steve Peru, MPA | President & CEO | United Way of Northern Arizona (panelist)
Steve Peru is President/CEO of United Way of Northern Arizona, a position he has held since early 2015. In this position, Steve oversees United Way’s community impact and investment strategy for Coconino, Navajo and Apache counties. United Way administers programs and community investments to over 50 community organizations, including over 30 in the Flagstaff area.
