- Shift/Hours: Working hours are split between office and onsite venue management. Availability and adaptability to work extended and flexible hours is essential.

Here is what you will get to do:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Under direction of supervisor)
- Production:
- Responsible for managing the execution, and oversight of, events at all SCPA and SCPA-leased venues and Scottsdale Arts-managed venues, as assigned, including coordinating the setup of all sound systems, stage lighting, theatrical equipment and artist services necessary for specific events.
- Development of safety and maintenance policies and procedures, to include any and all necessary training for the technical and artist services staff, and implementing same at all SCPA facilities and venues to ensure safe and proper working conditions at all times, complying with all local and national labor, OSHA and HIPAA laws, including current best practices from the field.
- Assists the Director of Production in the coordination and execution of in-house produced events.
- Budget:
- Creates, tracks, manages and oversees the budget for presented event project costs with respect to equipment, staff and sub-contractor needs – ensuring compliance with approved budget limits – reporting to and in consultation with, SCPA’s Director of Production.
- Creates, tracks, manages and oversees the budget for non-salary overhead and maintenance costs for the SCPA technical department – ensuring compliance with approved budget limits – in coordination with SCPA’s Director of Production.
- Maintains responsibility and oversight of any delegated budget tasks within technical department, such as: invoices, check requests, purchase/sales orders and reimbursement forms, and calculation/coding of over hire timesheets.
- Administration/Supervisory:
- Serves as primary communication liaison to technical department for inter-departmental SA planning and program implementation, providing information and reports to a variety of SA stakeholders including but not limited to: co-workers, board members, city council members and the public (when needed).
- Develops long range plans for facility improvement, equipment replacement and capital projects in consultation with SCPA’s Director of Production.
- Responsible for the recruitment and hiring of full-time and part-time staff and over-hire technicians to ensure the highest standards in technical skills and professional business conduct as well as a comprehensive, high quality on-call technical staff program.
- Supervisory responsibility including being responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of assigned staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, training, employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and redirecting staff, addressing concerns and resolving issues as needed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field of study (if no Bachelor’s degree, must have an additional 4 years advanced job skills or training and be approved by the Division Director)
- Experience: Minimum 5 years related experience in a combination of stage management, lighting design, audio engineering, and production management with demonstrated levels of increasing responsibility.
- Attributes:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read, comprehend and accurately interpret technical riders and drawings for a wide variety of live performing arts events
- Ability to perform mathematical and algebraic calculations at a high-school algebra level; as well as understanding and interpreting statistical data and performing analysis on raw data.
- High-level personnel management skills in a creative field with a variety of personalities and stakeholders, including but not limited to: performing artists, touring crews, local crews, vendors, non-tech staff, board members and the public.
- Able to multi-task and work calmly under a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
- Must be proficient in: Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint), theatrical electricity requirements and specifications.
- Able to use and safely operate sound, lighting, video and rigging equipment common to a multi-disciplinary performing arts center at least an intermediate level, required.
- Work Environment: Employee works in back stage and theater booth areas occasionally. Position requires lifting up to 50+ pounds, with sitting the majority of the day but must be able to ambulate up and down stairs, ladders, and other backstage equipment to perform job functions. Requires bending, stooping, crawling, climbing and balance. Vision and hearing/auditory required for work performed. May be exposed to outside elements, and works on computer frequently.
- Other requirements:
- Must possess valid driver’s license and driving record which is acceptable to the organization’s insurance carrier.
- CPR/AED certified – preferred
- First Aid Certification – preferred
- Fork Lift Certification - preferred
- ETCP (or similar institute/association) Certified Rigger-Theater Certification preferred.
