Nature of Work

Arizona Community Foundation (ACF) is seeking a Head of Information Systems (HIS) to help create the vision and strategy for highly effective information systems to help drive data driven decisions that inform our work and contribute to the successful achievement of strategic goals.

The HIS works directly with the COO, senior management and colleagues across ACF, serving as an information systems and business expert, creating recommendations and making decisions that will maintain and improve the company's current and future operations. The HIS will be a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and an expert in application systems, data, and systems integration architecture, design, development, enhancement, documentation, change management, and support.

Essential Job Functions

  • In collaboration with the COO, the IT team and senior management, develop and implement a vision and strategy for how application systems and data will be used throughout the company to drive successful outcomes and impact.
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of applications and systems to ensure they meet ACF's short and long-term data and information needs. Establish efficiency, efficacy, and quality 

    standards, providing recommendations to the COO for improvements to IT systems in support of ACF's business processes.

  • Monitor and analyze systems performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, and other needs.
  • Assist staff across ACF in the development of metrics, reports and dashboards to help ACF evaluate progress toward goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the COO to create information system, research and development goals and report on the status of initiatives.
  • Create timelines and project management workflows for the development, enhancement and deployment of all application systems. Develop training sessions, tools and resources to ensure ACF staff understand and effectively utilize all necessary applications. Revise and retrain as necessary with new or upgraded technology.
  • Direct, include, engage and develop IT Systems team members to build confidence and competency across all work.
  • Ensure annual talent reviews and goal setting are conducted equitably and accurately and that employee performance is viewed at the individual, team, and organization levels. Focus annual goals and their achievement on individual development, ACF’s core values, and the strategic direction and goals of the organization.
  • Work with the Chief People Officer to identify opportunities for development, expansion of roles, and promotions and to address performance issues where staff may need additional support or redirection.
  • In collaboration with the VP/Controller and COO, provide input on annual technology spend and ensure it is managed to the budget.
  • Ensure all technology practices adhere to applicable regulatory standards and requirements. Develop, implement and train staff on systems and technology policies, updating as necessary to include new technology or changes in regulations or staff expectations.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with external IT systems vendors and service providers. Regularly evaluate the performance of each vendor and make recommendations when changes are needed. Conduct inclusive and equitable RFP processes to identify new consultants, vendors, and other external partnerships to complement the IT staff and ensure successful outcomes for technology objectives.
  • Stay abreast of trends in technology systems, data gathering and integrity, AI, and other advances on the horizon.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the COO and executive team.

Qualifications

Knowledge or Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and/or significant relevant experience , including ten or more years working in an application design and development role.
  • Advanced systems development skillset and a demonstrated history with applications systems, integration, and data management. Significant understating of middleware applications.
  • Five plus years successfully leading systems development teams, where employee engagement, mentoring and development was a priority. Proven ability to delegate effectively and inspire successful outcomes from team members.
  • Appropriate vendor training and certifications in strategic systems and technology, with Salesforce required and familiarity with Workato a plus. Helpful certifications include:
    • Certified Salesforce Administrator
    • Platform App Builder
    • At least one Architect Certification
  • Understanding of the following Salesforce applications:
    • Sales Cloud with NPSP (nonprofit success pack)
    • Community Plus
    • Marketing Cloud
    • CRM Analytics
    • S-Docs (3rd party)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate and present technology terms in a way that ensures end user understanding and effective utilization of systems.
  • Ability to work with and keep confidential the sensitive and private data housed across systems, including ensuring appropriate security and permissions for access.
  • Ability to anticipate and prevent, where possible, systems issues. Ability to learn from and problem solve issues experienced.
  • Collaboration skills with demonstrated experience working successfully across teams to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Extensive tech industry knowledge with an eye towards the future.
  • Nonprofit experience is welcome.
