SUMMARY:

The Accounting Assistant provides daily support in the finance operation of United Food Bank. This role is responsible for the scanning of daily deposits, supporting the online credit card transaction system, and assisting with organizational purchasing. The position will also provide back-up support for the accounts receivable and payable activities of the organization. The position must ensure accuracy, integrity, and credibility of all accounting records while following appropriate financial policies and internal controls, related to United Food Bank and Waste Not financial management.

Qualifications

  • Helps to sort, open, and code daily mail.
  • Scans checks to bank accounts.
  • Serves as a backup for the processing of Waste Not’s meal connect/grocery rescue inventory and reporting as needed. 
  • Serves as a backup for the processing of accounts receivable and accounts payable, along with monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Assists the Finance Team in maintaining and updating accounting policies and procedures manual.
  • Assists the Finance Team with any projects or additional duties on an as needed basis.
  • Resolves accounting discrepancies and irregularities .
  • Assists in ensuring adequate internal control measures over the Food Bank’s (including Waste Not) assets, transactions, data, systems, and reports.
  • Ensures compliance with contractual, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements affecting the Food Bank’s (including our Waste Not subsidiary) financial transactions and affairs.
  • Assists in annual audits as needed.
  • Keeps up-to-date on developments in information technology, accounting, financial management, and business process improvement.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree in accounting, business administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Non-profit accounting experience is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and proficiency in Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV CERES accounting software (food bank industry-specific), but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, socio-economic levels, and staffing levels.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated individual
  • Exhibits qualities of maturity, good judgment, and tact.
  • Ability to effectively analyze and resolve routine and complex problems.
  • Ability to work in a team management environment.
  • Adept at handling multiple tasks and concurrent projects.
  • Possession of a valid Arizona driver’s license, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
