The Accounting Manager leads implementation of all general ledger, accounting systems, financial reporting, forecasts, and compliance requirements ensuring the accuracy, reliability and integrity of Trellis’ Financial Operations and Business and Program Strategies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as may be assigned.

Transactions

  • Maintains the general ledger accounting system and all subsidiary ledgers to track and report accounting transaction data efficiently, accurately, and timely.
  • Monthly accounting closing process, generating month- and year-end financial statements and assigned financial analysis.  This position will require the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Review and post month-end department and administrative overhead allocations prepared by accounting specialist.
  • Prepares and posts routine monthly journal entries.
  • Review deposits to ensure that cash receipts for receivables are properly coded.
  • Review coding of all transactions posted to grant, contribution, property sales and other significant general ledger revenue and related accounts.
  • Provide guidance as needed to the accounting specialist to ensure that invoices and other payment transactions are properly coded.
  • Act as primary accounting staff in maintaining the general ledger chart of accounts.
  • Oversees the processing of payroll and related benefits transactions in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensures that monthly bank reconciliations are completed prior to the presentation of financial statements to the Finance Committee of the Board.
  • Ensures that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
  • Develops and maintains an effective and efficient cost allocation system.
  • Ensures maintenance of effective internal controls over accounting transactions to assure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements.

Reporting

  • Prepares accurate and timely monthly financial statements, performance to budget, and other financial reports to assist management and the senior leaders in carrying out their responsibilities.
  • Coordinate preparation of annual budget and cash flow projections,
  • Support the development of contracts and program and project budgets and financial reporting.

Compliance

  • Lead compliance with all financial reporting requirements imposed by private or public funding entities and licensing or regulatory agencies.
  • Assists in resolving accounting and financial issues in a timely manner.
  • Prepares, accurately and on a timely basis, all documents required for the annual financial audit and Form 990 tax return preparation.
  • Prepare year-end audit reconciling schedules for grants and projects, including property for sale and inventory accounts and federal program reporting (including the SEFA).
  • Acts as an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the agency may enter.
  • Performs additional duties as requested by the CEO and the Board Treasurer.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  2. At least eight years of accounting experience preferably in a non-profit or government agency assisting with monthly general ledger account reconciliations and month-end closing processes.
  3. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  4. Experience with computerized accounting systems preferably in a nonprofit or government general ledger accounting environment where the general ledger accounting system interfaces with other accounts payable, bank reconciliation, budget and import/export modules. MIP preferred.
  5. Mortgage, financial services or real estate development experience is helpful.
