Purpose and Scope

To support the Diocese of Phoenix in its mission to Encounter the Living Christ, this position plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless execution and communication of Diocese fundraising and marketing initiatives. The Donor Communications Specialist will work closely with the Director of Community Relations and Events, Senior Director of Engagement and Legacy Giving, and Communications and Appeals Manager to ensure donor communication and marketing align with the Diocese of Phoenix's strategic goals. The specialist will be expected to proactively identify and solve problems that arise during event planning and execution. This position is equally strategic and creative in helping to Advance the Mission of the Church by connecting people to our mission through supporting creative messaging and design.

  • Lead the creation and communication of marketing content that will influence and engage donors in the mission of our Diocese, with a special emphasis on digital marketing under the direction of the director.
  • Serve as in-house specialist to support the Office of Mission Advancement to drive content across multiple marketing platforms including mass email communications, social media, e-newsletters, and website.
  • Manage and optimize digital marketing calendar and content to ensure consistency in communication while fostering donor engagement.
  • Partner with internal and external sources to develop and deliver marketing messages and materials (creative partners, web designer, print suppliers, videographer/ photographer).
  • Capture and catalogue simple photography and video for use in digital marketing.
  • Enhance the consistency and presence of donor communication delivery methods with a focus of fostering lasting relationships with charitable and ministry partners.
  • Manage donor communication on-going initiatives, while leading and executing daily donor marketing/communications tasks and projects, working close with the Director of Community Relations and Events, Senior Director of Engagement and Legacy Giving and Communications and Appeals Manager, as requested

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Exceptional project management skills and techniques that support communication with donors and applicable constituents.
  • Excellent writing skills – marketing content, storytelling, editing, and proofreading with minimum supervision.
  • Understanding of evolving digital communications trends, channels, and key measurement tools available.
  • Basic photography and video skills for utilization in digital communications.
  • Exceptional attention to details and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Demonstrate high level of professionalism in interacting with donors, suppliers, diocesan staff, and recipients of appeal funding.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to travel locally, and very occasionally overnight.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and/or InDesign, WordPress, Flock note and Canva.
  • Skillfulness to train in our database program, Raiser’s Edge NXT, particularly for email communications and donor relations.
  • Deep personal commitment to Catholic values and faith.
  • Strong preference for bi-lingual English and Spanish.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in marketing, Journalism, English, Communications, or a related discipline and 1-3 years of communications and digital marketing experience.
  • Active practicing Roman Catholic who is in full communion with the Church. Strong organizational skills including goal setting and prioritization.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and self-confidence.
  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of the Catholic faith and to serve as a committed witness to its mission.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

  • This role is a mixture of sedentary and active movement which includes lifting and moving boxes, tables and chairs, and some filing which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary.
