Emergency shelter saves lives. Imagine sleeping in alleys, under bushes, tents, having all your possessions stolen, dealing with inclement weather, always worrying about your safety, and being preyed upon. That is life sleeping on the street.
Ending homelessness starts with emergency shelter. At CASS, emergency shelter is having a place to lay your head at night,safely. It is also a connection to services to help end the cycle of homelessness – case management, clothing, health services, job hunting, resume building, obtaining IDs, and so much more.
Since 1984, Central Arizona Shelter Services has worked tirelessly to meet the needs of our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Position Description:
Central Arizona Shelter Services is seeking a compassionate, committed individual to leverage their experience and passion for the mission to provide leadership in all aspects of the agency, its affiliates, partners, and the community.
Reporting Structure:
- The CEO will report to the Board of Directors
- Direct Reports include the Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Development Officer
- Total staff – 80
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute agency policies, short and long-term strategic planning and corporate development and administrative management
- Provides leadership in all aspects of the organization
- Communicates with Board members regarding current trends, problems and activities within agency
- Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, schedules and terminates assigned staff
- Participates with the Management Team in the overall management of the agency
- Provides staff support to the Board and committees
- Develops or collaborates with other organizations to identify opportunities to create additional supportive and transitional housing
- Represents CASS externally to partners, constituents and the public
- Provides leadership in securing public and private grants, appropriations and donations
Other Duties:
- Assures needs of agency clients are met while remaining sensitive to the needs of the surrounding community
- Monitors legislative activities at city, county, state and federal level
- Advocates for CASS, its clients and its partners at the at city, county, state and federal level
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or related field, or comparable work experience
- Experience working effectively with a Board of Directors
- Successful track record fundraising in both the public and private sectors
- High-level experience as part of the leadership team of a large non-profit
- Minimum of five years management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business, Management, or related Field
- Experience working with the homeless or impoverished
- Experience in activities related to development and management of real estate
- Experience advocating for policy that will help the organization and the homeless population
