Museum Director

Who we are and what we do:

Cave Creek Museum (CCM) is a 501(c)3.  Our mission is to is to preserve the artifacts of the pre-history, history, culture and legacy of the Cave Creek Mining District and the Cave Creek/Carefree foothills area through education, research, and interpretive exhibits.

 

Position Description:

The Museum Director is the primary manager of the organization’s donor database and record keeping, and is responsible for creating development plans to help meet the annual and strategic goals of the Museum. The Museum Director will support the President of the Board of Directors in managing donor data to help identify and manage relationships with the organization’s current and potential supporters. The Museum Director has specific fundraising responsibilities as well as event management.  This position is the face of the Museum.

 

Primary Duties:

The Museum Director works closely with the President and Board of Directors to conduct fundraising and relationship building activities that support ongoing operations and growth, as set forth by Board of Directors through the organizational strategic plan. 

Building Annual Support 

Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Museum Director will: 

  • Laisse with towns of Cave Creek, Carefree, and local commercial organizations and businesses
  • Create an annual development plan to meet the annual budget and the strategic plan of the organization
  • Build and retain annual support through campaigns and events
  • Analyze, develop, and implement programs and strategies for the long-term cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donor prospects
  • Assist President of the Board of Directors in scheduling relationship building and cultivation opportunities of major donors through notes, calls, and visits
  • Develop effective working relationships with all donors and volunteers, to nurture their connections to the organization and community

Donor Data Management

  • Define and use donor relationship management system to track and update donor information, produce reports, perform analyses, and guide the donor cultivation and stewardship process and ensure seamless integration of data across the organization.
  • Process donations and ensure timely acknowledgement to donors
  • Prepare mailing lists, manage appeal mailings, and develop segmented donor lists for specific asks and or events

Events 

  • Work with the President of the Board of Directors and the Fundraising Committee to develop, manage, and coordinate fundraising events
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement major donor appreciation events
  • Identify and assist in the solicitation of sponsors for events

  • Well-developed written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated experience using effective interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with supporters, volunteers, and staff 
  • Ability to interact with a diverse audience
  • Solid time management and ability to meet deadlines with accuracy
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere
  • Exercise solid independent judgment, discretion and decision-making
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional work standards and ethics 
  • Ability to work effectively in results-oriented organization with either specific instruction or little supervision.
  • Ability to perform work in an office setting as well as outdoor locations where there may be infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements typical of Arizona’s desert.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary starting at $65,000- $75,000/year

The Museum Director is a full time, exempt, salaried position, accountable to the Board of Directors, and based at CCM’s Cave Creek, Arizona office.  The Museum Director supervises the Museum Operations Manager.  Some night and weekend work is required. Travel throughout the Valley is needed at times for projects and events.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Passion for and an understanding of the environment, land conservation, and public outdoor recreation
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of related fund development experience OR five or more years of demonstrated success in fund development and/or non-profit organizations
  • A working knowledge of deferred and planned giving vehicles, opportunities and all charitable giving best practices
  • Computer literacy with programs and software including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and CRM software platforms
  • Knowledge of and relationships to organizations, companies, and individuals within the North Valley and greater Phoenix area is preferred
  • Must be able to occasionally move up to 20 pounds, traverse uneven ground up to 3 miles, and work outdoors in exposed conditions
  • This position must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license
