Position description

Posting last updated 2 weeks 4 days ago

Three well-established United Methodist congregations in Tucson, Arizona - partnering together to create a shared youth ministry - are seeking an energetic and creative full-time Director for Youth Ministries to launch and lead the new initiative. The ministry is envisioned to include a combined Sunday evening youth group, two concurrent Sunday school classes led by volunteers, and a shared discipleship (“confirmation”) class coordinated with the three pastors.

Our hope is to find a Director who, in addition to creating and implementing programming, can build a strong volunteer team working within a unified vision. Ideal candidates for this position should be well versed in the United Methodist tradition and have a college degree, as well as strong teaching, relational, and organizational skills. Sponsored by three congregations striving to be open and affirming, it is expected the youth ministry will be a safe place that affirms and welcomes any middle and high school youth who wish to participate.

Qualifications

  • Active professing Christian. Ability to accept the differences present within the base of a modern, mainline, Protestant faith community is necessary. Background in The United Methodist Church is preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Skills in leadership, organization, communication, and relationship-building.
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, and/or equivalent experience in education, is preferred.
  • Knowledge or work experience with the developmental stages of children and youth preferred.
  • Previous experience managing and supervising others preferred.
  • Knowledge of fundraising and budget management preferred.
