A dynamic opportunity to change lives!  Join our team and become part of a longstanding and respected non-profit organization in Phoenix, Arizona.  We witness the mission of the organization in action every single day, and are committed to building on this legacy through innovation and collaboration.  This position provides executive leadership and direction to achieve the agency’s vision, mission, business strategy, annual goals and objectives.  The role has accountability for all agency operations including fiscal management: oversight and responsibility.  The successful candidate leads by example, setting clear strategies and performance expectations developed in an environment of participation and collaboration with the Board of Directors. 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona has provided mentoring in the Phoenix metropolitan area for almost 70 years.  Big Sisters was established in 1955 and Big Brothers in 1965.  The two agencies merged into one in 1986.  BBBS of Central AZ is one of the largest Big Brother Big Sister agencies in the country and is a member of the Large Agency Alliance of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.  BBBS of Central AZ serves all of Maricopa County and limited areas of Pinal County.  Each year we strive to grow the number of children we serve, with 1244 children matched with a mentor in FY2023.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Agency and its mission, programs, products and services are provided in a manner that is consistent with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America standards and required practices, and are consistently presented with a strong, positive image to the public, volunteers, stakeholders, Board members, the community, etc.
  • Lead a staff of over 50 individuals (4 direct reports) involved in the day to day operations of the organization in four key areas:  Programs, Administration/Operations, Development/Marketing and Donation Center.
  • Maintain an innovative approach to agency management by exploring and implementing opportunities with the potential of financial and/or strategic success.
  • Drive the development and implementation of long-range annual operating and strategic plans. 
  • Ensure effective fundraising planning and implementation, including assisting with identifying resources, and approaching potential donors. 
  • Recommend annual operating budget (approximately $4M) for Board approval and prudently manage the organization’s resources within budgeted guidelines and in accordance with applicable current laws and regulations.
  • Drive a values based culture that supports strong employee and volunteer engagement aligned with organization objectives.
  • Report to, assist, and advise the Board and its committees regarding the operating results of the Agency, comparing monthly operations to Board approved plans and budgets, explaining variations.
  • Establish and evaluate performance objectives for the Leadership Team (direct reports), and oversee coaching and performance review process for the organization.
  • Work cooperatively with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Qualifications

Background/Skills

Minimum 5 years of nonprofit executive leadership experience in a culturally diverse and competitive environment with a 3-5 year proven track record in fund development or appropriate transferable responsibilities.  Excellent communicator and public speaker; experience managing an organizational transition.

Education:

Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University; prefer an advanced degree within a business discipline; graduate degree in Management or Human Services.
