Position description
Imprints of Honor - Board Director
Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of veterans and students, and the future of our community? Consider sharing your talents as a member of our Board of Directors. Members share a commitment to our mission of Connecting Students with Veterans to honor veterans, preserve America's heritage, and develop future leaders. Their background and expertise provide the tools Imprints of Honor needs to remain a successful and dynamic organization and build our capacity to serve across Arizona and the Nation. Board members are responsible for financial development and sustainability, strategic planning, and advocacy for our mission. Terms of service are two years, with the possibility of renewing for up to three consecutive terms (6-year maximum). The anticipated time commitment is between 4 to 10 hours a month.
Founded in 2004, Imprints of Honor facilitates an after-school Character and Civic Education Program for students in grades 7-12 and college in Arizona schools and communities. Students build character, leadership, and 21st century skills by connecting with veterans who share their stories of service with the next generation. Core elements of the program include writing, publishing, and archiving veteran service stories; presenting their work to veterans at an annual book reception; engaging in civic events; and scholarships. Veterans continue to shared deeper understanding of first-person history, patriotism, civic duty, and sacrifice through classroom and community presentations.
The program builds appreciation for veterans and their service, bridges gaps with the civilian population by providing insights into the realities of military life, preserves their legacy for their family and future generations, and provides a cathartic experience which supports healing from moral injury and PTSD.
