JOB SUMMARY:

The Family Advocate is responsible for providing comprehensive trauma-informed support services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking through New Life Center's Residential Services Department. The Family Advocate will provide trauma-informed supportive services to survivors through advocacy, safety planning, and referrals in order to improve the safety, quality of life, and resilience of survivors who receive services from New Life Center. The Family Advocate position upholds New Life Center's mission, vision, and core values of compassion, resilience, equity, and community.

Thursday - Sunday 11:30 am - Friday

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision:

None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Advocacy / Support Services:

  1. Provide trauma-informed advocacy services for children and their families.
  2. Provide culturally relevant services to all survivors and their families, including women, men, children, LGBTQ+, and survivors of diverse ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds.
  3. Answers crisis calls, facilitates intake and/or makes referrals as necessary.
  4. Completes intake interviews and campus orientation for children and their families coming into shelter.
  5. Assesses level and history of violence experienced and aids in the development of a safety plan for survivors and their children.
  6. Assists clients in identifying areas of need and collaboratively developing goals with survivor parent, including resource and referral to other community supports.
  7. Implements programming and services to help children and their families build resiliency.
  8. Facilitates adult programming and support groups in the shelter setting.
  9. Provides crisis de-escalation as needed.
  10. May provide transportation for program participants to appropriate appointments.
  11. Documents and enters all survivor services into the electronic case management system.
  12. Participates in and contributes to staff meetings and agency training.

Agency Management:

  1. Assist with program service delivery in New Life Center's programs including emergency shelter, and the children's development center.
  2. Participate as an active team member of the Residential Department Team including attending department meetings and coordinating services with other Advocates, Lead Advocates, and Case Managers, and Housing Specialist.
  3. Share in responsibility for cleanliness and appearance of entire campus.
  4. Participates in and contributes to staff meetings, staff committees, and special events for staff.
  5. Communicate emergencies, resident concerns, and organizational needs to the designated on-call staff member or appropriate member of the leadership team.

Other:

  1. Help in building a culture of cooperation and collaboration among New Life Center staff, interns, and volunteers.
  2. Support and adhere to all policies regarding participant and program confidentiality.
  3. Ensure the regular use of releases of information (ROIs) when coordinating services with outside partner agencies on behalf of children, youth, and/or families.
  4. Actively contribute to New Life Center's trauma informed philosophy.
  5. Keep current on issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking including seeking out appropriate training opportunities.
  6. Participate in scheduled agency-wide meetings and events as assigned.
  7. Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  1. Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in social work, women and gender studies, social justice, counseling, or related field.
  2. Valid Arizona driver's license and insurance.
  3. Currently possess, or ability to successfully obtain Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance**
  4. Ability to pass FBI National Background Check**
  5. COVID Vaccination or approved exemption**
  6. CPR/1st Aid Certified. **
  7. Negative TB test required. **

** If necessary, New Life Center will complete these areas of qualifications during the onboarding process.

  4. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
  5. Regular and consistent attendance.
  6. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow-through with tasks.
  7. Effective time management and ability to prioritize and reprioritize tasks in a fast-moving environment.
  8. Highly proficient with computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
