Director, Marketing Research and Insights
The ASU Outreach Hub is dedicated to connecting more constituents in impactful ways using data-derived insights, integrated and collaborative approaches and advanced outreach techniques in support of the ASU Public Enterprise.
The Director, Marketing Research and Insights at ASU Enterprise Partners (ASUEP) oversees the day-to-day operations of market research function within the ASU Outreach Hub. This role acts as a strategic partner and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders.
What you'll do:

Direct/lead efforts to continuously assess, improve, and evolve underlying market research methodologies

Lead the creation and selection of underlying data science models in partnership with the DAI data science team

Generate clear and actionable insights for executive audiences, backed by internal and industry research trends

Direct the activities and operations of the Market Research team to ensure achievement of established objectives and goals consistent with the mission of ASU Enterprise Partners (ASUEP) and Arizona State University (ASU)

Direct, coordinate, consolidate, and review available constituent information from multiple sources to direct team to synthesize results - providing coherent insights that inform leadership strategies and initiatives

Design plans to deliver strategic recommendations that integrate multiple insight sources to influence data driven decision making for leadership

Work with functional experts to ensure research, data analysis, and reporting or model development activities will yield actionable results

Manage, direct, train, and advise a team to create market intelligence leveraging comprehensive research and varied market research methods delivering data driven market insights to leadership

Conduct integrated research planning/prioritization across the organization; partner with various stakeholders to ensure coordination with Outreach Hub and ASU Brand team projects

Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data from multiple studies and sources to generate strategic and tactical insights, actionable recommendations, and rich stories about our constituents

Identify methods needed to inform business questions (e.g., data analysis, primary research, statistical modeling, secondary information) and leverage subject matter experts (internal or external) to execute specified projects

Translate research data into actionable insights and recommendations through reports and presentations

Provide ongoing updated insights to leadership team on a regular cadence regarding trends

Ensure market research uses consistent methodologies, including common intake and reporting templates

Builds and maintains a comprehensive portfolio of research vendors and tools

Work with the Outreach Hub and ASU Brand teams to build a strategic and integrated view of the market relative to our brands and consumers

Provide training and share research findings to cross-functional partners to educate them on competitive intelligence

Collaborate with Outreach Hub and Brand team to explore the discovery of new sources of information, market trends, and technology that push the boundaries of how ASU uses data to understand consumers, enhance their experiences, predict their behavior, and anticipate their future needs

Fosters teamwork and key relationships between other areas of the organization and internal and external customers to provide outstanding customer service

Hires, motivates, develops, and retains a high-performance team

What you'll need:

Senior market research expertise
-
Skill in uncovering meaningful insights, asking second- and third-level questions to see the patterns behind data to craft expert analysis to be used by partners

Demonstrated ability in planning, executing, analyzing, and communicating data and insights to drive action

Ability to iterate during and between studies to identify, implement, and evaluate changes quickly
-
Experience working with other data disciplines such as Data Science and Business Intelligence
-
Experience distilling complex analytic output into actionable insights, and presenting those insights to senior executives across the enterprise
-
Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies
-
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and responsibility regarding information related to Enterprise Partners, its subsidiaries and University business and confidential prospect information

Exemplary customer service skills demonstrated through actively listening, acknowledging, and responding to every inquiry; taking ownership and resolving each concern or problem as appropriate; exhibiting professionalism and expertise in every interaction and engaging in professional development to meet expectations for service excellence

Expert knowledge of market research across primary and secondary methodologies as well as insight methods and strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches

Strategic thinker with experience making data-based marketing decisions, integrating, and balancing big-picture concerns with day-to-day activities

Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, review and revise department budgets
-
Proactive ability to plan, execute, analyze and communicate data insights to drive actions

Effective verbal and written communication to include graphic presentation of complex data
-
Attention to detail with professional agility required to navigate rapidly changing dynamics of the industry and marketplace

Ability to represent the institution well

Relevant qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing concentration
-
7+ years professional research, insights or marketing leadership experience
-
Must be a passionate team-builder who can work well with multi-functional teams, be a strategic and creative thinker, have a positive can-do attitude, and work well in a constantly evolving environment
Preferred education and experience:
-
Advanced degree in Business, Marketing or a related field AND
-
Ten (10) or more years of marketing strategy and data analytics experience
-
Previous experience quickly analyzing and synthesizing key information from a variety of primary and secondary sources and reports that is made digestible and actionable for leadership teams
