Development Officer, Corporate Philanthropy

 

The ASU Foundation (ASUF) fosters partnerships between ASU and like-minded individuals, corporations and foundations who believe in ASU’s mission and provide resources for ASU to manifest its charter into meaningful impact.   

 

The Development Officer (DO), Corporate Philanthropy at the ASU Foundation for a New American University supports the alignment of ASU's strengths with corporate funding priorities. They cultivate partnerships to advance ASU's academic, research, and social impact goals. Working with various business stakeholders, they identify opportunities, develop engagement strategies, and manage donor relationships. This includes research, outreach to corporate leaders, and assistance with grant writing, reporting, and engagement. The DO ensures compliance with internal processes and reports to the Assistant VP of Corporate Philanthropy. They play a key role in the Changing Futures campaign and contribute to the growth of the Corporate Philanthropy team.

 

 

What you’ll do: 

  • Actively engages with business and corporate donors with a primary focus on securing annual gifts of all sizes in accordance with core performance metrics

  • Supports strategic planning and engagement efforts of the Corporate Philanthropy Team, working in tandem with corporate partners on the university across various enterprises

  • Serves as a thought partner and strategizes with the campaign team on best practices related to engagement, solicitations, events, and stewardship of corporate partners

  • Connects donors and prospects to ASU through a variety of events and engagement opportunities

  • Assists in high-level event production pertaining to corporate gift announcements including but not limited to public events and private tours of campus

  • Staffs and engages with donors at ASUF and ASU events and programs

  • Fosters collaborative relationships with development colleagues and University constituents by coordinating joint solicitation efforts, developing internal processes and procedures, and aligning marketing and outreach efforts for complex, fast-moving, programs and initiatives

  • Works effectively in the prospect management and tracking system and coordinates with research and prospect management to move donors into the major gift pipeline

  • Performs tasks related to specific development program components assigned, such as annual giving progress, monitoring campaign progress, and unit annual giving

  • Utilizes Salesforce, to maintain current and confidential information on development activities; makes effective use of the both Salesforce and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of corporate donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers in coordination with University objectives

  • Prepares budgets as requested for specific projects and events, controlling expenditures within budget allocations

 

 

What you'll need:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles

  • Strong ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives

  • Database management skills and experience with Salesforce or other CRMs are preferred; strong experience with both Microsoft and Google Suites

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others

  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a diverse team environment and across many units

  • Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community

  • Program planning and leadership skills

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information; high level of discretion when working with corporate and business partners

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups; polish when communicating with a high degree of attention to detail

  • Adaptability, coachability, and an eagerness to learn new systems while building processes, procedures and programs from the ground up

  • Capability to multi-task and juggle complex projects; ability to work in ambiguous situations and under changing deadlines; flexibility and professionalism with a good sense of humor and a bias for action

  • An entrepreneurial mindset and excitement for the ASU Charter and work ASU Foundation is doing to advance the Charter across many colleges, institutes, programs, and partnerships

Qualifications

  

Relevant qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program

  • One (1) to three (3) years of successful development experience

  • Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources with a preference for corporate fundraising experience

  • Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives
