Public Allies Arizona kicks off the 2022-23 program year, welcoming 16 emerging leaders in Phoenix and Tucson

October 19, 2022 – The ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation is pleased to announce the launch of the 17th year of its Public Allies Arizona program. The Phoenix and Tucson cohorts include 16 emerging leaders who were selected to advance the mission of creating a just and equitable society and the diverse leadership to sustain it.

During the program, they develop leadership skills, gain professional experience with a placement at a nonprofit or public organization, and make lasting connections in the community and with their cohort. Allies are diverse and passionate individuals interested in social change and making a positive impact in their community.

The Allies and their placements include:

  • Alesha Adolph, Arizona Preservation Foundation, Tucson cohort
  • Randall Defiesta, Hustle PHX, Phoenix cohort
  • Chris Elliott, Arizona Commission on the Arts, Phoenix cohort
  • Miranda Escobar, Tucson Parks and Recreation, Tucson cohort
  • Rachelle Gorzola, Rehoboth CDC, Phoenix cohort
  • Konrad Howard, State Historic Preservation Office, Phoenix cohort
  • Asha Howell, Xico, Phoenix cohort
  • Tysheka Johnson, Tempe Community Council, Phoenix cohort

  • Antanisha Parker, Friendly House, Phoenix cohort

  • Sean Rios, Phoenix cohort
  • Ariana Ruiz, Tucson Parks and Recreation, Tucson cohort

This year’s Allies include participants from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Public Allies Arizona is changing the face and practice of leadership throughout Phoenix communities by demonstrating our conviction that everyone can lead, and that lasting change results when citizens of all backgrounds step up, take responsibility and work together.

Public Allies Arizona is a 10-month AmeriCorps program that places dedicated, service-minded young individuals in paid apprenticeships at local nonprofit partner organizations across Maricopa and Pima counties.
