Leading in an Age of Disruption: Learn more at the 19th Annual Forum on Nonprofit Effectiveness

Phoenix, Ariz. (Feb. 22, 2018) – Why should donors care about the nonprofit workforce? How can we replace outdated myths of martyrdom with a positive new mindset that lifts up the dignity and powerful contributions of nonprofit workers?

Those are a few of the questions that keynote speaker Rusty Stahl will tackle during his presentation at the 19th Annual Forum on Nonprofit Effectiveness, March 2, 2018, at the Tucson Convention Center in Tucson, Ariz. The event boasts an array of influential and thought-provoking speakers and addresses issues that affect all nonprofits. This year’s theme is .

Stahl is the founder, president and CEO of Fund the People, an organization that seeks to maximize investment in the nonprofit workforce. He is also a Visiting Fellow in Residence at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and he founded and served for 10 years as executive director of Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP).

“The sector suffers from a deficit in investing in our leaders and our people,” Stahl has said. “It’s incumbent on everyone in every role to begin maximizing investment rather than wringing our hands about a supposed lack of people. Let’s invest in the people we’ve got and help them do their best rather than continuing this deficit mentality.”

The keynote is just one part of an exciting agenda. The forum will also feature an interactive luncheon discussion, with live audience polling, led by Susan Tomlinson Schmidt, CNP, president of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance; remarks by Robert F. Ashcraft, Ph.D., the executive director of the ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation; networking opportunities throughout the day, starting with a morning “ask me” activity led by Kasey Hill, executive director of Greater Tucson Leadership; and four highly engaging and practical workshops presented by our community’s most influential leaders.

This year’s workshops are:

  • Looking Ahead: Finding Success in Succession Planning & Leadership Transitions, presented by Jennifer Tersigni, CFRE, founder and lead consultant at Tucson-based Raise the Bar Consulting.
  • Emotional Intelligence for Leadership Influence, presented by Bobi Seredich, co-founder of the Southwest Institute for Emotional Intelligence.
  • Inspirational Leadership in a Changing World, presented by Scott Thompson, president and CEO of Tucson-based Legend Leadership Group.
  • 9 Leadership Power Tools to Advance Your Career, presented by Laurie Battaglia, MSOD, PCC, CEO and Workplace Strategist at Aligned At Work.

“We have learned from years of running leadership development programs across our center’s portfolio that anyone can lead; that ‘leadership is an action one takes, not a position few hold,’” said Dr. Robert Ashcraft, executive director of the ASU Lodestar Center and Saguaro Professor of Civic Enterprise. “A conference like ours addresses with intention the leadership actions that can be taken, especially in times of disruption, to assure high-performing people, teams and organizations.”

Nonprofit professionals, board members, philanthropists, funders, community volunteers and business leaders attend the event, which will mark the 7th consecutive year the ASU Lodestar Center has held a spring event in the Greater Tucson area. The forum’s $75 registration fee includes breakfast, lunch, the presentations and convenient parking.

The ASU Lodestar Center organizes this and other events as part of the Center’s mission to build the capacity of the social sector by enhancing the effectiveness of those who lead, manage and support nonprofit and philanthropic organizations.
