Increasing capacity at Tanner Community Development Corporation (TCDC)

February 2, 2022

In 2021, Katia Jones served as Fund Development Strategist Experience Matters Fellow to Tanner Community Development Corporation, (TCDC), a faith-based nonprofit whose mission is to help people in need by addressing education, economic, spiritual, health, and housing needs in a way that improves their quality of life. Jones, who has over 20 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector, assisted the TCDC Board with the creation of a Fund Development Strategic Plan for current and future fundraising activities. She also provided Board training on critical areas of responsibility and support increasing the visibility of TCDC within the community.

Dr. Felton, managing supervisor for TCDC Board stated: “Katia worked extremely well with our organization and the team. For the first time in the history of our organization, Katia provided knowledge and expertise to leverage current resources and contribute to the organization’s capacity. With the pandemic and as resources have declined, Katia provided the opportunity for our organization to improve its footprint and presence within the community through the utilization of virtual tools. Individuals receiving direct services from our organization will benefit from the increased capacity that resulted from Katia’s work.”

With over 10 years of experience in development and fundraising strategies, Jones’ philosophy is that “development involves much more than fundraising, rather it requires proficient knowledge in several areas that can affect fundraising results.” Her knowledge, skills, and expertise include communication, marketing, database management, web development, event logistics, and volunteer management.
