The Family Support Specialist promotes children's development through services that support early learning, health, and family well-being through collaboration with families, our education teams, and community partners.

 

About the Early Education Division
The Early Education Division is federally funded to administer center-based Head Start and Early Head Start early care and education, along with community resources and referrals to support economically disadvantaged children to be ready for school and families to achieve self-sufficiency.   Currently, classrooms are operated through a mixed service delivery model of full-year, part-year, community and school-based sites; operated
directly by Maricopa County and through contracted Child Care Partnerships.

Job Contributions

  • Builds collaborative relationships with parents of the assigned areas to establish trust and educates parents on available resources in the area served
  • Initiates and maintains co-operative partnerships with community agencies that provide health, social, employment, and educational services. Refers families for services in the community, assists the family in accessing services, and monitors service completion
  • Assumes responsibility for child recruitment and maintains enrollment records for all assigned sites throughout the program year. Completes applications for program enrollment and coordinates the enrollment and termination/drop activities of children. Monitors child attendance and contacts parents regarding child’s absenteeism or other issues
  • Initiates and maintains co-operative partnerships with the assigned area’s Education team to ensure families receive quality, comprehensive services
  • Facilitates, encourages and supports parent involvement in each area; organize and carry out parent committee meetings and parent training activities based on the needs of the families. Makes periodic home visits to each family enrolled in the program scheduling around working families’ availability
  • Collaborates with the family to identify their goals, strengths, and necessary services and support. Develops a Family Partnership Agreement for each family enrolled in the program and supports the family in plan implementation
  • Maintains current, accurate and confidential records (paper and electronic) and runs reports to track services to ensure program compliance for all children and families enrolled in the program
  • Assists with providing front desk coverage for the Head Start program and requires a weekly office day

 

Working Conditions

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire
  • Must secure a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by time of hire
  • Must complete a medical exam that includes screening for tuberculosis (TB)
  • Must obtain a CPR, first aid, and food handler’s certification within six weeks of hire
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish may be required for some positions
  • Work is routinely performed in an office environment, which may require long periods of sitting, reading, and typing
  • Requires travel to program sites throughout Maricopa County
  • The position requires travel to and from various county, client, and contractor locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business


 

Qualifications

We Require

  • Two years of case management experience
  • Associate’s degree in Social Work, Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, Education or a closely related field
