From passenger to driver: PhilanthropyMatters event discusses the unique power of women's giving

A roomful of community leaders gathered to learn more about how women are driving bold philanthropy on Tuesday, October 23. Women have always been philanthropic, giving of time, talent and treasure throughout American history. But their stories have not always been part of the narrative.
Today, because so many women are stepping fully into their philanthropic leadership, women are driving philanthropy in unprecedented ways.
The latest PhilanthropyMatters event from the ASU Lodestar Center featured Debra Mesch, an international expert from the Women’s Philanthropy Institute at Indiana University, sharing the latest research on the unique power of women's giving.
Connecting the research to local impact was an esteemed panel of philanthropists: Juanita Francis, Jackie Norton, and Cindy Watts, moderated by Amy Gibbons. By sharing stories of their own philanthropic journeys, they demonstrated how the momentum around women’s philanthropy is building. The panel discussed how the research redefines who is a philanthropist, and encouraged women to embrace the label and accept the egalitarian definition of philanthropy as “love of humankind.”
