Allen Gjersvig (Jers-vig) has led nonprofit organizations, large and small, for more than 30 years. He has worked in the fields of higher education, blood banking and other health related and human service nonprofits. Recently he led Keogh (Key-o) Health Connection’s growth from one employee to ten; they directly assisted more than 10,000 people enroll in AHCCCS (Medicaid in Arizona).
He has held positions as Executive Director/CEO, Counselor, Development Director and Regional Vice President. His experience encompasses national nonprofits with very large budgets, formal procedures and federal regulatory oversight and local start-up groups. His experience with insurance and benefits comes from executive positions in nonprofit organizations (as an employer) and he has held an insurance producer’s license in Arizona and Wisconsin.
He spent 22 years with United Blood Services (Blood Systems, Inc.) in multiple western states. As Executive Director of UBS – Arizona for 14 years, he was responsible for 450 employees, 10 traveling teams, and 11 fixed sites.
He joined the Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers (AACHA) in 2012; leading the Don’t Get Dropped campaign to inform people at risk of losing Medicaid coverage. As Director Navigator & Enrollment Services, he leads many projects related to the Affordable Care Act and the Insurance Marketplace including a statewide Federal Health Insurance Navigator grant and works with Certified Application Counselors at community health centers across the state. AACHCs network of Assisters during 2016 assisted consumers with nearly 225,000 applications for coverage and post enrollment help.
Originally from northwestern Minnesota, he holds a Master’s degree in Education-Counseling from Minnesota State University-Moorhead and a BA from Concordia College, Moorhead Minnesota.
Allen and his wife, Bev, have lived in Arizona for 30 years and have two married daughters and two grandchildren.
