Tell us about an experience that got you interested in the sector.
The experience that made me want to get involved in the social sector occurred when I witnessed the important role that a nonprofit played in supporting a family that had a child in the hospital with a serious health issue. The compassion that was shown to this family blew me away and made me realize that the people who work for this nonprofit were living out a mission. What a way to make a difference! It made me want to make a difference too.
What advice would you give to a leader trying to make a difference in their community?
My advice would be to be a “connector” of people and causes. Don’t go it alone but rather look to work with other like-minded people and organizations that believe in the same purpose. Collaboration accelerates success!
Why is the Lodestar Center’s mission important to you?
The Lodestar Center’s mission is important to me because a thriving social sector is equally proportionate to the quality of life we have in our communities. We must continue to build the capacity of nonprofits by enhancing the effectiveness of those who lead, manage and support nonprofit and philanthropic organizations.
