"Are you ready to make a significant impact on your community?"

Public Allies Arizona is an intense 10-month apprenticeship program designed to develop the next generation of civic leaders. We are seeking dedicated, service-minded people to become Public Allies with nonprofit organizations in the Phoenix area.

  • Based in 23 cities across the country, Public Allies is a social justice organization committed to creating a just and equitable society and the diverse leadership to sustain it.
  • Gain skills to improve your ability to start a career in the nonprofit sector through an apprenticeship at a Phoenix nonprofit.
  • Strengthen your networking, collaboration, communication, and project management abilities.
  • Build personal and professional relationships with a cohort of like-minded individuals through fun and exciting trainings and retreats!

Each year people of widely diverse backgrounds are selected to join our Public Allies Arizona AmeriCorps program. Although our application is open to all who are interested, we especially encourage you to apply to Public Allies Arizona if you are:

  • Interested in or passionate about community change work or a career in the nonprofit sector
  • Underemployed or unemployed
  • Non-degreed
  • Have proof of high school diploma, GED certificate, or higher education transcript
  • Highly motivated to learn professional skills
  • Open to diversity, new ideas, and being challenged to become a better leader
  • Must be at least 18 years old and a citizen/permanent resident of U.S.
  • Able to commit to ten months of full-time service starting in February (averaging 40-50 hours per week)

Benefits

  • 10-month, full-time apprenticeship to gain real work experience at a reputable community organization
  • $1,375/month (gross) stipend with 12 personal days/holidays off from work
  • Healthcare benefits, childcare stipend (if eligible), and student loan deferment for qualified federal student loans while in the program
  • Individual and peer-to-peer coaching to enhance your personal and professional capacity to do community change work
  • $5,920 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award
  • Access to the Arizona and National Public Allies Alumni Network for support and networking opportunities

Additional program elements

  • Participate in Team Service Projects
  • Serve a minimum of 1,700 hours in the Phoenix community
  • Serve as an AmeriCorps member
  • Attend bi-weekly professional development and leadership trainings
  • Attend team-building/leadership-development retreats
  • Attend professional conferences and events related to the service movement and volunteerism
  • Participate in 360° Leadership Development Feedback
Your Segal AmeriCorps Education Award

Use your Segal AmeriCorps Education Award

Upon successful completion of the program, up to $5,920 will be given to you to pay back student loans or pay for future educational or professional development opportunities (including many offerings at the ASU Lodestar Center).
