ASU Lodestar Center collaborates with Internal Revenue Service to offer workshop for small & medium-sized 501(c)(3) organizations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 

Phoenix, Ariz. (March 4, 2014) –– The Arizona State University (ASU) Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation has collaborated with the Internal Revenue Service to offer a one-day workshop for small and mid-sized 501(c)(3) organizations on both Wednesday, March 19, 2014 or Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the UA College of Medicine’s Virginia G. Piper Auditorium located on 550 East Van Buren Street in Phoenix, Ariz. Workshop hours are 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM for either the Wednesday or Thursday session.

 

Experienced IRS Exempt Organization Division Specialists will conduct this workshop and will explain what 501(c)(3) organizations must do to keep their tax-exempt status and comply with tax obligations. The workshop is designed especially for administrators or volunteers who are responsible for an organization’s tax compliance as well as those interested in careers in the nonprofit sector.

 

Topics in this workshop are the “nuts and bolts” of tax-compliance for exempt organizations, and include: tax exempt status; unrelated business income (UBI), including gaming activities; employment issues; Form 990 issues; required disclosures and much more. Attendees will also have ample Q & A opportunities with the presenters, IRS Exempt Organization Division specialists.

 

There is a $50 registration fee and pre-registration is required via the ASU Lodestar Center website at: www.lodestar.asu.edu/irs. Registration for Wednesday's workshop will close at 12:00PM on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 and registration for Thursday's workshop will close at 12:00PM on Wednesday March 19, 2014.

 

Certified Public Accountants, IRS Enrolled Agents, and Legal Attorneys who attend qualify for earning CPE or CLE credit hours. A certificate of attendance will be provided by the IRS for recording your credit hours.
