How to apply

Steps to Board Membership

Email interest to gaby@asteppingstone.org application materials will be provided

Becoming A Stepping Stone Foundation board member is a significant way to help your local community and we are grateful for your consideration!   A typical non-officer board member spends about 3-5 hours a month on board activities including service on one board committee.  Board meetings are typically every month beginning in February. The annual retreat is typically in June.

There are five steps to becoming a board member and they are listed and explained below.

  1. Meet with A Stepping Stone Foundation board member and/or A Stepping Stone Foundation senior staff member either in person or via a video conference service  The purpose is to get to know one another, explain what board service entails, and answer any questions the potential board candidate might have about board service.
  2. Visit one of our LEAF program service sites.  The purpose is to see first-hand what your service would support in our community.  While our LEAF (Literacy Elevates Arizona Families) Program is not the only active mission we have in the community, it is our oldest and most impactful program currently in the field.
  3. Visit a board meeting.  The potential board candidate must visit one board meeting before the board will vote on the application.  The purpose of this visit is for the board candidates to experience first-hand what their duties as members will be.
  4. Fill out the application.  While an individual wishing to become a board member may fill out the board member application at any time and submit it to the board, the board will not consider the application for vote until the potential board member has completed items 1, 2, and 3 from this list. The vote on the application may take place at the end of the candidate’s board meeting visit or via email shortly after that.

The board votes on the candidate’s application.  Once voting is complete (this may take several days if voting is via email), a Board Officer or the Executive Director notifies the candidate by telephone, text, or email within 48 hours.  We consider voting complete when a majority of current board members have tendered their vote.
