The ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation recently held its 19th Annual Nonprofit Conference on Sustainability Strategies on October 13 - 14, 2011 at the Desert Willow Conference Center in Phoenix, Ariz.  This year's theme was "'Go fast, go alone; go far, go together': Collective Impact."  Nearly 250 nonprofit leaders, community partners, students and professionals from across all sectors - business, government, general public, and nonprofit/philanthropic groups - attended this year's conference.  The conference was made possible through a collaboration with the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Arizona Chapter and through sponsorships from JPMorgan Chase & Co., Arizona Community Foundation, M&I Wealth Management, Valley of the Sun United Way, and the Phoenix Business Journal.

The conference featured national speaker Fay Hanleybrown, of FSG Social Impact Consultants as she delivered the latest model and best thinking on how to achieve social impact.  Day two included a plenary session featuring Colin Groth of the Strive Partnership, from Cincinnati - a national model for collective impact whose mission is driven by achieving better results in education from "cradle to career."  Colin Groth’s presentation gave participants an in-depth framework of how they built a successful infrastructure to support collective impact.  Many attendees took advantage of the in-depth workshops that focused on board leadership, fundraising, communication, and collaboration. Additionally, participants learned best-practice techniques from two expert panels, one focused on community-wide efforts to end homelessness and another on a variety of current domestic and international cases/models revolving around collective impact. The conference concluded with a special advanced screening of the documentary, Saving Philanthropy, followed by an in-depth discussion with the film’s producer, Kate Robinson.
