Generating Income and Resources"

Just under 300 people attended the 18th Annual Nonprofit Conference on Sustainability Strategies on October 14-15, 2010 at the Desert Willow Conference Center in Phoenix! Thank you to the sponsors who made this educational opportunity possible: M&I Institutional Trust Services and Qwest (Gold Level Sponsors) and Arizona Community Foundation (Silver Sponsor).  Thank you also to Bank of America for sponsoring Clara Miller's Keynote address and to the Phoenix Business Journal for their in-kind/advertisement sponsorship.

  • The conference featured national speakers Kay Sprinkel Grace, Consultant to Nonprofit Organizations, Transforming Philanthropy, LLC and Clara Miller, President & CEO, Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) as well as local President & CEO of the Arizona Community Foundation, Steven G. Seleznow.
  • This year's conference was expanded to include two three-hour Opening Conference Sessions.  IRS tax law specialists hosted a session on Unrelated Business Income and how it relates to tax-exempt organizations.  A session on "Third Generation" nonprofit-corporate partnerships was also offered and provided participants with the valuable tools, resources and a specific action plan for building nonprofit-business relationships.
  • Attendees participated in 17 workshops focusing on strategic planning, board leadership, fundraising, volunteer management, marketing, social media, collaboration and financial sustainability.  In addition, participants learned from two expert panels, one focused on social enterprise and another on the media's role in sustaining nonprofit organizations.
  • Attendees had the opportunity to participate in affinity networking groups allowing them time to connect and dialogue with individuals in similar nonprofit positions/roles and who have the same interests, goals and challenges.  Affinity groups included Generation Next and Emerging Leadership, Senior Professionals with 10+ Years' Experience, Development/Fundraising Professionals, Program Management Staff, Marketing/Public Relations Professionals, and Small Nonprofits.
  • For the first time, The ASU Lodestar Center formally collaborated with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Greater Arizona Chapter. Serving as AFP's Annual State-Wide Conference, the ASU Lodestar Center's 18th Annual Nonprofit Conference on Sustainability Strategies included several workshops for both senior and general professional fundraisers.  The event was a win-win for both organizations!
